About this blog
This blog is the voice of the new "Action Branch" of Collapse Club.
Our "Contemplative Branch" has been in operation since 2023, holding two meetings per week, offering a safe and structured space to metabolize the emotions that come with collapse awareness. For complete information about those meetings, please visit our main website.
International Connections
Here on the action side, we are helping to forge an international "collapse movement" to develop localized capability for mutual aid, disaster relief, and self-defense. We are following the lead of Kollapscamp in Germany, where, in August 2025, 900 people gathered to learn practical skills, do emotional processing, and have great fun! Organizers Tadzio Müller and Scully are breaking new ground to discover what "action" can mean in the time of collapse.
We are also engaged with the French branch of Deep Adaptation: Adaptation Radicale. Through our colleague Julien Lecaille, we are learning about a new initiative called The Storm Network (Le Réseau des Tempêtes) headed by author Pablo Servigne. This new project aims to develop "citizen mutual aid" as a defense against the chaos of collapse. (We translated a recent talk by Servigne.)
Speaking of translation, we are using newly available tools to bridge the barriers of language and culture. We use the Chrome browser, which integrates Google Translate to make it easy to browse the Web in your home language. We understand the moral implications of using AI in this form: The systems use so much power and water that they cause suffering for humans in faraway places. At the moment, we believe that connecting collapse-conscious people around the world is a justifiable use of the technology.
Preparedness Support Group
Our current project, here in the Action Branch, is the Preparedness Support Group, which is just getting off the ground (October 2025). Many collapse-conscious people would like to be better prepared at home for hazards like storms, power outages, and other "normal" emergencies, as well as the potentially greater disruptions of collapse. We are banding together to help each other understand what it means to "be prepared," and to actually accomplish the work.
We've published an extensive collection of Emergency Preparedness Advice, and we've advocated for "Collapse Response" as a viable approach to preparedness. Please subscribe to this blog to receive meeting notices and further information.
About the author
Here's my bio from the Contemplative Branch:
David has been attending to collapse since he was a teenager. In high school, he made an extensive study of nuclear weapons and decided that the game is up! He went to Harvard for three semesters, majoring in "turn on, tune in, and drop out." As a volunteer HAM radio operator in the Seattle Emergency Operations Center, he saw the mismatch between the incoming crises and human capability to respond. He was a volunteer for the Deep Adaptation Forum from 2019 to 2021. He writes on Substack.
