Agenda: Saturday, 6 December
Let us share our acts of service that foster relationship.
Here is what I think we should do at the meeting of the Preparedness Support Group on Saturday, 6 December.
I had what I think is an epiphany (which I wrote about previously) that relationship comes first, before the skills, equipment, and plans of emergency preparedness. This agenda reflects that idea, and is an attempt to surface the hidden riches of relationship that exist within our community.
Agenda
- Approve the agenda. If you have ideas about what we should do, please write them in the comments below or in the Signal Group.
- Comment on XReadiness, the preparedness guide from Extinction Rebellion. If you have a moment to peruse the booklet, please feel free to chime in.
- Share our acts of service that foster relationship.
I am convinced that we must start at the "cellular" level. That is to say: Community resilience must begin with individual acts of service that foster relationship among people.
I mean "service" in the widest possible sense, to include all manner of action in all kinds of relationship, e.g.: taking care of your kids, making cookies for your neighbor, hosting a meeting online, getting arrested at a protest, taking someone to their doctor's appointment, organizing a "Power-Out" exercise, bringing groceries to a shut-in, managing a non-profit, etc., etc., ad infinitum, in boundless diversity.
I think we need to tell each other what we are doing to nurture relationship in ways small and large. We need to hear from each other what an ethic of service feels like in the time of collapse. This is informative, because it shows us what is possible, and it's encouraging, because it tells us what is rewarding to other people. We need courage to step up and take action, no matter how small our action might seem. From tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow!
So, please give some thought to what you have been doing lately, and please resolve to share your activity with the group. Everyone serves in some way, and we want to know your way! - Evaluate the process. Was this meeting rewarding? Did we learn anything? Does this help us in our quest for community resilience?
- Talk about the future. More meetings? Different meetings? Particular activities? What then shall we do?
