How we serve
Even our introverts are outgoing, but how do we prepare for collapse?
I found it inspiring to hear from everyone how they are involved in their community and in touch with their neighbors. Clearly, we are an outgoing group (even the introverts!) and we want to make connections. (I've attached Susan's notes from the meeting. Invaluable resource, thank you!)
We are doing a lot of good stuff, but the questions remains: "How does this help us prepare for disaster?" (Not to mention collapse.) That question is our continuing study in this group.
The impulse in the group seems to be that we want to focus our attention, in smaller groups or even with a "buddy" we can work with. I don't know how to do this! I'll be happy to hear suggestions, in the comments here or in the Signal Group.
Put Yourself on the Map
I have done something that may help. I've created a map where people can enter their location, contact information, and a personal profile. This may allow people to make contact with people nearby, and with people who share their interests. The map is just rolling out now, and it will take a while to reach "critical mass," but I hope it will be a useful tool.

See the map here: https://app.nocodemapapp.com/app/yZcaHYPOCbtSm0jyoejs
Here's the form you use to join the map: https://collapsecommunity.fillout.com/t/scHMJcEqujus
I'm calling this the "Collapse Community" map. The data is kept in an 'Airtable' database, collected from a 'Fillout' form, and rendered by the 'No Code Map App.' It took me a couple of weeks of sleepless night to figure out how to put these services together using "APIs" or "Application Programming Interfaces," but I think it works, now.
Please give it a try!
The Immediate Future
I invite you again to attend the Deep Adaptation Family Winter Solstice Gathering, on Saturday, 20 December, on the theme of "Return of the Light." It's a very informal gathering, just for us to be together at the turn of the year. The hoped-for entertainment line-up is...um...sparse, so we'll likely spend much of the time talking to each other, as we do. The question of the night is: "What can we celebrate, in this remarkable moment?" See the complete calendar entry here.
Regarding our next meeting: Two weeks after our last meeting is this upcoming Saturday, the day of the DAF Solstice Gathering. Three weeks after our last meeting is 27 December, in the Christmas weekend. I'm going to invite us to meet Saturday, 3 January, at 11am Pacific time (as before), with further details to come.
Please, in the interim, let us think about how to constitute smaller groups where we can focus our attention and our activity. I'm happy to engage in impromptu discussion about any ideas anyone may have!
Enjoy the holidays! See you soon!
