The Draft Agenda

The draft agenda focuses on the structure of the meeting, rather than the topics. We do know some topics that people are interested in (thanks to you who wrote in about your interest in "pods"), and we do have some local experts. What we don't know is who will be at the meeting!

Therefore, we will use a variation of the "Open Space" technique to collect topics at the beginning of the meeting. We will ask for "pitches" from anyone who knows what they want to talk about. In our context, a "pitch" is a proposal for a breakout room. It's a way to let "pods" form spontaneously in the meeting. (You will be able to move from pod to pod.)

In the latter part of the meeting, we will try an innovative way to help ourselves take action. In the section called "Success & Commitment," we will invite people to tell us about their success in doing a preparedness task, and for those who want to, to make a commitment to the group to do something in the coming fortnight (i.e. before the next meeting in two weeks).

At the 90-minute mark, we will have a pause and those who want to can depart. For people who want to get deeper into whatever topic they're involved with, we'll stick around for another half-hour in "Deep Session."

Agenda

90 minutes + 30-minute "Deep Session."

Please feel free to discuss this draft in the comments below, in the Signal group, or on the email discussion list.

Topics

Here are topics that people mentioned they are interested in, in response to the latest query:

  • "Big Picture" - Tasha and Patricia feel that we should have a chance to discuss the meaning of preparedness in our specific individual circumstances. Tasha is preparing a survey and Patricia is preparing a workshop (not for this meeting). This also relates to the question from Kat: "How are we 'collapse' people different from regular preppers?"
  • Water - VJ said: "I'd have to ask for some mutual aid in having water to cook and clean with. It seems one gallon of water per day is an infinitesimal amount."
  • Food - VJ again: "Planning for planting. Water needs. Dry land farming. Plant what you like to eat. Plant for nutritional needs." Also: "stocking-up, storage and emergency food preparation."
  • Opening Dialogue with Neighbors
  • Mental Health/Trauma
  • First-Aid/Medical
  • Sanitation/Toilets
  • Communication - Radios
  • Personal Safety
  • "Exit Plan"

Library

I am working on the infrastructure for a "Library" of references and resources. I hope to roll something out in the next couple of weeks.

See you soon!

Looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it, on Saturday!
