Resources in Advance

Several people sent in resources that could be the topic of "pods," or breakout rooms. Or, they're just interesting!

Tasha: Collapse Preparedness Census

Tasha from New York made this excellent suggestion about sharing information in our group:

Organizing into smaller geographic based groups could be a starting point for identifying the primary support needs of those in that particular region. From that starting point, cross-pollination could more easily occur. Let's say someone from the France pod is really impacted by the drought situation there, but there's only one hydrologist among us and they're located in the Western US pod. During our "meeting of the pods", the French need for a water specialist can be communicated, and the American hydrologist can go to their colleagues and seek a referral for a hydrologist familiar with the French drought situation. Collapse is hitting us all differently but we want those different perspectives to strengthen and help connect us.

To enable this cross-pollination, Tasha has created a "Census" in a Google Form. Please feel free to check it out and fill it in!

Let’s discover where we are and what we need!

Anna: Emergency Toilet Guidebook

Anna from Montana found a definitive resource for how to make and use emergency toilets. It's from the Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization in Portland, Oregon USA. The particular disaster they're preparing for is the Cascadia Subduction Zone 9.2 earthquake, which could happen any day now. If it does, "we may need to know how to live without running water and working toilets for weeks or months." (This applies to me, BTW, because I live in Seattle, just up the coast.)

Here's the project page. The Guidebook is at the top.

Zoe: New York Times Disaster Preparedness Quiz

Zoe found this interactive quiz to test your knowledge about certain specifics of disaster response. (Here's a "gift link" to bypass the NYT paywall.)

Zoe prepared a "cheat sheet" with all the answers, too.

See you Saturday!

Looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it tomorrow!
